Winter 2012
New
Lighting in Garages!

All five of the LPA garages are in the process of being retro-fitted
with new lighting. The replacement of the 2,400 fixtures in all of
the garages will provide better, brighter lighting and make the garages
safer. It will cost less to power and maintain the fixtures, and the
project will reduce the authority's environmental impact. The two-month
installation project began in late November in Penn Square and Prince
Street Parking Garages. It is the first authority-wide lighting
replacement done in the garages. Some of the fixtures being replaced
are original to the garages, the oldest of which were built four
decades ago. The cost of the project is $413,000. With energy-saving
rebates, that cost drops to $333,000 and with the $92,000 in annual
cost savings on the authority's electric bill, the investment will be
returned in a little over three years. The savings represents a 44
percent reduction from current electric pricing.
Although parking revenues at
the garages have been relatively flat, operating costs have continued
to rise.
According to environmental
projections, the relighting is projected to save:
675 tons of carbon dioxide; 3,920 pounds of sulfur dioxide and 1,658
pounds of nitrous oxides. It is also the equivalent of taking 128 cars
off the road and planting 17,298 trees.
Change
to Daily Parking Rate
Effective January 1st, the rate for the 2nd hour for daily parking will change from $1 to $2. Rates will be $2 for each of the first 2 hours and $1 each hour thereafter to a maximum of $15 per day. Monthly rates will remain the same as 2011 rates.

Survey Results Say We’re
Doing A Good Job!
The first ever customer
satisfaction survey was initiated to gain input on how our parkers
perceive all aspects of their parking experience. The survey was
conducted as part of our “Customer Appreciation” days
and gave our staff an opportunity to meet with many of you, provide
coffee, a breakfast bar and a small token of our thanks for parking
with us. Over 300 monthly parkers responded to the survey which
provided us tremendous insight into your parking experience. Many
of the recommendations from the survey have already been acted upon and
others are being looked into. The survey results provided the following
feedback:
·
87% said it easy or very easy to find a space in our garages.
·
70% said our garages are safe or very safe.
·
48% said the garages are clean or very clean.
·
78% said our signage was clear or very clear.
·
73% said our garage staff is friendly or very friendly.
·
89% said the office staff is friendly or very friendly.
·
83% said the garage equipment is reliable or very reliable, and
·
87% said that they were overall satisfied to very satisfied with their
parking experience in our garages.
We appreciate all of the
responses received and encourage our customers to contact us at any
time with any comments or questions!
Those completing the survey
were eligible to win a gift card to a downtown restaurant. Congratulations
to our winners!

New Kiosk/
Street Signs
Our multi-space street meters received a face lift.
In our efforts to create a more user friendly experience, we went through
an extensive evaluation process in order to simplify the directions and
make them as easy as possible to use.

The redesign also includes a
QR code, scannable by smart phones, that directs users to a “How To
Use” the kiosk video.
Free
Holiday meter Parking!
From
December 19th thru December 24th, the Lancaster Parking Authority placed
complimentary Holiday bags over the meters in the D.I.D. as well as signs
in the multi-space meters. The Authority hopes everyone had a great
holiday season as we begin a new year!
